Rollback to Float

ISR’s unique results are achieved through fully customized, safe and effective, one-on-one swimming lessons with Coach Ashley. What your child will learn, and the way he or she will learn it, is what makes ISR so different from traditional swimming lessons. Always putting safety first, ISR emphasizes competence, which leads to confidence, and provides the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment in and around the water.

What Will My Child Learn in ISR Lessons?

All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them, and it's just as important for our older students as they incorporate more swimming skills.

As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well. ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, rotate onto their back to a floating position, and then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline.

I grew up a competitive swimmer and started coaching swimming while in college. I have coached many teams on and off since then, and currently coach a summer league team. I am excited to also be teaching ISR Self-Rescue™ lessons!

After having my son in 2018, my passion for aquatic safety grew. Unfortunately, after teaching so many traditional lessons, I realized that many older children are unsafe in the water and the time to start lessons is when they are infants and toddlers. That's why I decided to become a trained ISR Instructor--so I could teach all of Howard County's young children to be safe and comfortable in the water!

I'm Coach Ashley, your child's ISR Swim Instructor.

Sessions are generally 5-8 consecutive weeks. Your child's session is not finished until they have the ability to Self-Rescue. After your session is complete, a maintenance schedule of one lesson every 1-2 weeks is recommended to maintain skills.

ISR lessons are conducted with one Instructor and one student in the pool. This guideline ensures an individualized focus on your child at all times to ensure their safety.

One of the many unique things about ISR swim lessons is that each lesson is no more than ten minutes in length. The reason for this is we do not want your child to become fatigued. This is just one of the many safety protocols ISR lessons have in place.

Each ISR instructor is required to go through a rigorous 6-week training program that includes in-water and academic training and participates in highly specialized annual recertification to maintain the highest level of safety and caliber of instruction.

Over 60 years of working in the water with children has led to the discovery that skills are most effectively retained and mastered when lessons are five days a week. Your child's lessons will be at the same time Monday-Friday. This will allow ISR lessons to become part of your child's routine.

No food or drink should be consumed at least two hours prior to lessons.  Please keep this in mind when scheduling your lesson time.

ISR lessons with Coach Ashley are $165/week. The first 3 weeks are due when you book your session and the last 3 weeks of lessons are due before the first day of lessons. There is also a one time fee of $105 to register for ISR National. Scholarships are available. Contact me for details.

The location of lessons is at Hampton Inn Columbia. The address is 8880 Columbia 100 Parkway, Columbia, MD 21045.
